anatomy painting of lungs with shape of cross between themNovember 4, 2015

I love looking at anatomical drawings and charts as much as I do maps of the world. The seemingly vague and mysterious relationship of one entity to another suddenly becomes clear. Our imagined reality, in comparison to actual reality, is often very surprising.

You know that our breathing is the inhaling and exhaling of air.  The organ that serves for this is the lungs that lie round the heart, so that the air passing through them thereby envelops the heart.  Thus breathing is a natural way to the heart.  And so …with this inhaled air, force your mind to descend into the heart and to remain there. -Nicephorus the Solitary

I inhale great draught of space…the east and west are mine…and the north and south are mine…I am grandeur than I thought…I did not know I held so much goodness. -Walt Whitman

A sigh isn’t just a sigh. We inhale the world and breathe out meaning. While we can. While we can. -Salman Rushdie, The Moor’s Last Sigh

Inhale, and God approaches you. Hold the inhalation, and God remains with you. Exhale, and you approach God. Hold the exhalation, and surrender to God. Krishnamacharya

Inhale Peace, Exhale Joy -Author Unknown

When I was a kid, I inhaled many times. That was the point. -Barack Obama
